What’s the collective noun for a group of beauty journalists? A puff? Spritz? Dab?! Well, whatever you call it, we were caught up in a large one today backstage at House of Holland as we battled our way through the mass of photographers, film crews, stylists, runners, models and shlebs swimming in a sea of coconut water to catch a pre-show glimpse of the HOH look.
It comes as no surprise that Mr Holland was riding high on what may well be a key trend for this LFW - the bicycle (see PPQ post), with hair and make-up taking inspiration from a the Tour de France. However, the models looked less like they had just done a grueling 3,600km cycle and more like they had spent the morning having a lovely summer cycle through the countryside. The make-up look by M.A.C’s Lucia Pica and team had healthy glowing skin, a classic red matt lipstick, fresh eyes and eyebrows brushed upwards (probably from all that country breeze). Lucia said that she used shine on the cheek bones and under the eye to give a slightly sweaty and soft sporty look. This was definitely nothing like the red-faced sweatathon after our usual cycle to work.
The hair by Adam Reed was the most stylist helmet hair ever. Inspired by Barbara from ‘The Good Life’, the top was flat to the head with textured low pony tails and soft waves like had been gently wafting in the wind. Very romantic and pretty as opposed to squashed and a big frizzball. The bling queen of talons Sophy Robson was on hand (literally) to create the nails (for Leighton Denny) and she taken inspiration from the houndstooth fabric (a key part of the collection) and created a transfer which was put on top of pink and blue nails. Her amazing huge Chanel C earrings were having a bling-off with the beautiful interior of Goldmsiths while she prepped the models. Henry was around and seemed very chipper bustling about backstage in his blue houndstooth trousers, checking on things, chatting to his celebrity pals as they arrived and posing for pics before his ‘tour de force’ took off.
