LFW day 3: Nicole Farhi
Hosted in the grand setting of the Royal Courts of Justice (WC2), Nicole Farhi’s autumn/winter catwalk presentation was attended by shlebs from British actor and all round national treasure Bill Nighy to that cute floppy haired one from Skins cast three, as well as the high court judge of fashion herself. (Wintour watchers take note: a leopard print coat was her winter warmer of choice.) After an airport style bag check during which every fashionista worth her Katie Hillier bunny necklace set off the alarm, we were treated to a smörgåsbord of autumnal tones that had our feet yearning for a spot of leaf crunching. Moving away from the sherbet lemons and loose silhouettes of last season, Farhi’s latest collection was heavy on the metal and far more body concious, including clingy silvery silk dresses, brass heeled wedges and gold fitted skirts. These shiny textures, chic and muted as they were, added a tough edge to the designer’s otherwise feminine aesthetic. Buttery soft mole grey jackets were nipped in at the waist by bronze belts while leather gloves were cuffed by chunky silver clasps. Nothing particularly new here for Farhi, but still plenty of beautiful pieces to inspire.
