Peter Pilotto’s AW2012 show kiiiiillleeeed it
Peter Pilotto and design partner Christopher De Vos have credited much of their success to the support they’ve received from the British Fashion Council and sponsors like Topshop. This morning, to a packed out old Billingsgate market, the duo demonstrated how deserving they are of every opportunity offered to them.
The Peter Pilotto label, a little like Burberry, is unusual in that is has a very recognisable signature- with futuristic prints and tightly engineered dresses, but at the same time manages to feel completely different each season. When we interviewed them for our London Fashion Week issue earlier this month, they pointed out that when they have spent months developing the construct of a perfect dress, it’s foolish to start with a blank canvas each season. So the show had familiar elements from the collections which have won over a fanbase that includes Anna Wintour, Samantha Cameron, Michelle Obama as well as younger superstars like Drew Barrymore and Kate Bosworth. Dresses were almost uniformly cut to the knee, and nipped in at the waist, Pilotto stylee. But this time around they were teamed with super cool mini bombers (mini bombers- major trend) in Pilotto digital print.
Completely new was a bit of experimentation with embroidery-and for a design house so new to intricate embellishment, it was exquisitely done- with cocktail dresses thickly encrusted with discreetly glittering jewels. Many outfits were topped off with candy coloured fox fur tippets, and like it or not, fairground coloured fur is shaping up to be a big Autumn Winter trend- with Antipodium and Matthew Williamson also sticking two fingers up at the Peta gang outside and wrapping their models up in real fur.
