OWLS - so hot right now.

Yesterday, two shows at opposite ends of the bling spectrum invoked some strigine inspiration- over in Kensington Park for the ritziest show of fashion week, Burberry’s owl emblazoned intarsia jumpers peeped out from under its tweedy macs and luxury reefers and instantly became the most covetable bit of knitwear for AW12. As if to hammer the point home, Kate Bosworth perched front row wearing one of the owly knits herself.

Meanwhile, in the secret cocktail joint Bar 58, the lovely East End based indie designer Nicola de Main quietly launched her silky collection of owl print shirt dresses and separates, and told us she “fell in love with the bird in the opening scenes of the Javier Bardem film, ‘Biutiful’…When I saw the majestic bird again in David Attenborough’s Frozen Planet, I became obsessed with their quirky looks and hunter’s prowess”.

De Main designed an ‘owl within an owl’ motif for her print collection, and then shot a film illustrating the garments in flight. (see above.) The film was shown last night over owl themed cocktails by Elements 8, and cute little owl masks were handed out to guests. All in all, a very owly day for fashion.
