Quilted shapes (Christopher Raeburn), autumnal tones (Nicole Farhi) and rich but muted reds (Acne) and greens (McQ) have littered the catwalk over the past few days, assuring us that AW12 is going to be a cosy one. What we haven’t seen much of is the type of all-out, bold colour that could lift a drizzly day in November. But you can always count on Holly Fulton for that.

The Fashion East and Newgen darling brought just two colours to the table for her AW12 presentation: pink and blue. But with some 20 bold shades of each, her collection was a riot of vibrant tones.

Print, of course, was a statement feature and the London designer’s trademark art deco designs adorned various fringed skirts, figure-hugging halter dresses and shrunken jackets. Her ‘glasshouse’ inspirations, meanwhile, took shape as exotic palms, petals and even butterflies.

Fulton, who hand draws all her meticulously symmetrical prints, also demonstrated a more sophisticated, lady-like silhouette this season – sober suit combos and elegent evening wear both felt more grown-up that Fulton’s usual fun-loving fare – and we hope it cements her place as a LFW mainstay.
